The 19th International Exhibition Green is Life

Clematis ‘Krakowiak’PBR z Grupy Viticella złoty medal26-28 August 2011, Warsaw, Poland. The exhibition "Green is Life" has been taking place annually for the last 19 years, traditionally at the end of August and the beginning of September. It is the biggest event of the horticultural industry in Central and Eastern Europe.

This year’s edition’s motto was Garden – a good move and was devoted to convincing the visitors that gardening could be the first step towards improving the quality of life as well as a great way of spending leisure time in an active way.

In the space of 13 thousand m2, in three exhibition halls of Warsaw Expo XXI, gathered nearly 300 exhibitors from 11 countries: Poland, Austria, Belgium, France, Spain, Holland, Lithuania, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary and Italy.

They presented the latest introductions and technical developments in the nursery and horticultural sector as well as the most inspiring trends in the landscape architecture. Plant exhibitors in the number of nearly 150 prevailed among participants, occupying over half of the total exhibition space.

The Honorary patronage over the exhibition was taken jointly by President of the capital city of Warsaw Ms Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Minister of Agriculture and Countryside Development Marek Sawicki and Rector of Warsaw University of Life Sciences Prof. Alojzy Szymański.

Traditionally, the first day of the exhibition was aimed at the professionals – landscape designers, gardeners, nurserymen – and on the other two there gathered amateurs of plants and gardening. The total number of visitors reached 16 500.

On Friday, during the opening ceremony competitors of contests Green Laurel and Plant Novelty were awarded. For the Plant Novelty contest Sz. Marczyński, W. Piotrowski Clematis Container Nursery submitted three new Clematis cultivars raised by Szczepan Marczynski: Beautiful Bride’PBR, ‘Krakowiak’PBR, ‘Sweet Summer Love’PBR. Clematis ‘Krakowiak’PBR of Viticella Group was awarded the Gold Medal and Clematis 'Beautiful Bride’PBR received an honourable mention.

Sz. Marczyński, W. Piotrowski Clematis Container Nursery stand took space of 80 m2, Its ingenious arrangement and beautiful Clematis in bloom attracted the visitors’ attention and won recognition of the Golden Laurel Contest jury. Our exhibit was divided into several sections:

  • a section related to the ecological campaign Green All Around in which we presented plants beneficial to human health and wellbeing as well as those animal and bird friendly. (download leaflet "Żyjmy zdrowo, otoczmy się pnączami")).

  • an arrangement of a balcony and a terrace to show how to create cosy and colourful corners on limited spaces using climbers in large containers.

  • a NOVELTY section in which we presented plants introduced in our offer in the summer 2011 and EXPORT section decorated with flags of the countries.

  • a space devoted to the new Clematis cultivar ‘Maria Skłodowska-Curie’ which received an enormous interest of media and visitors, both thanks to its exquisite, full flowers and to the naming ceremony that took place during the exhibition opening.

During the opening of the exhibition Professor Michał Kleiber, President of The Polish Academy of Sciences and Head of the Committee of the Maria Skłodowska-Curie’s Year celebrations, conducted the ceremonial name giving to the Clematis raised by Szczepan Marczyński. Naming the plant after the Noble Prize winner is a tribute of Polish nurserymen to the eminent Polish scientist to honour the Year of Maria Skłodowska-Curie celebrations.

Guests from the world of science, Curator of Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum, representatives of organizations promoting Maria Skłodowska-Curie’s achievements and members of her family had been invited to the ceremony.
