An evergreen climber with attractive deep green lanceolate leather-like leaves, 10-15 cm long and 3-4,5 cm wide. Rather sparse small (2-3 cm) yellow orange flowers are borne at the tips of stems and in leaf axils in June-July. Black violet berries. Young stems are purple and hairy and turn brown with age. Stems twine round the support. It tolerates moderately fertile soil, provided that it’s not too dry nor acid. It may freeze during severe winters. Particularly useful for growing in regions with a mild climate, in sheltered and well lit positions, next to arbours, pergolas, trellises and other supports.
