Robust variety, covered in early summer with a cloud of small (4-6 cm across) deep violet, nodding flowers on long stalks, composed of four tepals with a paler central bar. Creamy yellow anthers on greenish filaments. It blooms profusely in June-July and again in August-September, though the second crop is less abundant. It grows up to 3,5-4 m high and clings to its support with twining leaf stalks.
Particularly useful for growing on fences, arbours, pergolas and various garden supports, e.g. trellises, sticks, in sunny and warm spots. It looks lovely climbing up small trees or bushes, both coniferous and deciduous. Stunning against a light background.
