The berries are oval, about 3.5 cm long and 2.5 cm across, purple red when in full sun, and can be eaten unpeeled. They start appearing in the third – fourth year after planting. It tolerates temperatures down to -28oC. Requires a warm, sheltered site in full sun and moist, well-drained, fertile soil. In order to set and bear fruit, it needs a male form of the same species in the vicinity (i.e. a male form ‘Weiki’). Twining stems. Suitable for growing up various supports, arbours, pergolas and trellises. It can also be trained along a wire stretched between poles. Particularly useful for home gardens, allotments and production plantations.
